The story behind the book

It began as a way to keep five grandchildren still.

One Christmas Eve, with five restless grandchildren gathered at her feet, Leona (Isphording) Huller began to invent a story on the spot — a boy named Jack, his endless curiosity, and a Christmas adventure that unfolded a little further with every telling.

She told it once a year, on Christmas Eve, and never on any other night. For decades it lived only in memory, passed from one gathering to the next. This book finally writes it down.
